Transcending Tibet: Trace Foundation
In August 2014 Trace Foundation produced Lens on Tibet in collaboration with The Museum of Modern Art in New York. This project was completed as a joint work to the larger anniversary celebration of Gatön, from the Tibetan word for celebration.
Trace Foundation will be opening two art exhibitions to take place now until early 2015 in New York City. Trace has been working for the past twenty years with Tibetan communities; the exhibitions will highlight contemporary Tibetan art. The participating artists explore what it means to be Tibetan day—a term that is not easily defined.

The dates for the full exhibition, Transcending Tibet will be announced soon. It will coincide with Asia Art Week 2015. New contemporary artworks from thirty artists will be commissioned for the exhibition. In ten years Tibetan visual art has transformed into a flourishing international movement.
For both exhibitions, the participating artists represent a wide array of points in their careers, from emerging to established. Though most of these artists share a Tibetan heritage, their diverse upbringings have resulted in artworks that appropriate iconography from historic Tibetan art as well as from other cultures throughout the world.
