Zhang Peili: Video Screening at the Reading Room, Bangkok

The Reading Room and Arthub Asia presents a screening selection of Zhang Peili’s video works from the 1980’s until recent years. This event is organized as a result of Zhang Peili’s presentation at the Jim Thompson Art Center on the occasion of his participation in “Survival Techniques,” a group exhibition, curated by Davide Quadrio of Arthub Asia, at The Art Center, Chulalongkorn University during February to March 2011.
Screening of Zhang Peili’s video works will be introduced by Davide Quadrio, followed by a question and answer session.
About Zhang Peili
Zhang Peili (1957, Hangzhou) is considered a milestone in Chinese contemporary art scene and one of the country’s pioneering video artist. He graduated from Zhejiang Art Academy in the early 80’s, then gave up painting and experimented with video art first and then new media. He was the first Chinese artist to create a video art work back in 1988, when he recorded himself washing a chicken over and over. His works is often infused with sharp social and political commentaries.
