Per Bj. Boym Residency at Platform China, Beijing
Art historian and curator Per Bj. Boym will have a residency at Platform China Contemporary Art Institute in Beijing for two months in autumn of 2011. He will do research on artists that have shown a longtime commitment to a special place, a special topic or a special theme. In his research he will cooperate with Arthub Asia. The research will eventually have an exhibition in 2012 or 2013 in Norway and possible other venues as one of its results.
Per Bj. Boym curated (as one of two curators) the exhibition Light as fuck – Shanghai Assemblage for the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Norway in 2004. Last year he curated a one-man-show with works of Yang Fudong at KINOKINO in Sandnes, Norway. Boym was director of Museum of Contemporary Art, Norway from 1996 through 2003. In those years he curated the most comprehensive retrospective of Robert Smithsons (1939–1972) work, a substansial presentation of the artist photographer Robert Adams work, and an exhibition confronting European manuscript illuminations from the 11th Century with contemporary art from Europe and America. As an art historian he has specialized in Norwegian painting from the first half of the 20th Century in addition to contemporary Art.
