N524: Exhibition by Young Hangzhou Artists

This exhibition of artists from Hangzhou was organized by BizArt Art Center. N524 is a number of a train from Hangzhou to Shanghai. The artworks mainly consist of videos and installations.

The video Tofu shows the reaction of onlookers watching and surrounding two people who are pretending to argue. The creator of Our Busy and Exciting Life acted as a censor and cut all the erotic parts of a porn film. In the artwork 2007.1.6 0:00, the artist aimlessly wanders in the middle of the night, shooting what is around him in the dark–the objects only appear to us because of the flash of the camera.

One artist modified mundane objects from our everyday lives, like a chair or bed, and transformed them into interactive works–it was as if they had been brought to life. Upon lying on what they believed to be an ordinary bed viewers realized they were a part of a rotating interactive piece of artwork. This everyday object had been distorted into something uncommon.

These young artists from the New Media Art Department of the China Art Academy expressed their unique opinions; valuing their individuality and lauding their own personality in each work presented at the BizArt Art Center.

Participating artists: Cui Shaohan, Sun Huiyuan, Zhang Lehua, Wu Juehui, Zhong Su, Zou Chen, Wang Xiaofeng
