BLAST! comes to Palermo, Italy!

An extended version of BLAST! will be presented at Spazio Espositivo del Caffè Internazionale, Palermo, this Friday, April 15th. The space, which opened in December of last year, has a rotating video program every two weeks.

Opening: April 15th at 8:00 pm

Duration: 15 – 27 April, 2016
Venue: Via S. Basilio, 37, 90133 Palermo, Italy

Arthub’s longtime friend, Italian visual artist Stefania Galegati, will be screening the extended version of BLAST!, which includes 8 finalists and 14 additional artists’ videos from the open call which inaugurated in 2015. This is the second time the video platform will be presented in Europe. The looped works premiered last year at Asia Now in Paris Asian Art Fair at Espace Pierre Cardin.

The inaugural edition of BLAST! initiated last year at the Art in the City Festival. The work was presented throughout the month of September in multiple venues across Shanghai.

BLAST! is a platform for artists/creatives who have an interest in moving image, animation, cartoons, computer-generated videos or interactivity to submit 30 second long 16:9 HD videos. There is no limitation on content, the subjects can be narrative or abstract, as long as they result in moving image. It challenges applicants to express themselves in a medium that is often criticized for disrupting ‘normal’ patterns of social behavior, while engaging with the public.

BLAST! is organized by Arthub and Art in the City, with collaboration by Flatmind. The second edition of BLAST! will launch May 1st, 2016 – keep an eye out for more information later this month (open to anyone living in Asia).
