Today is the first day of the Chinese lunar calendar; we hope you have an auspicious Spring Festival no matter where you’re celebrating the holiday. Festivities are not limited to China, as many cities around the world – that are home to large Asian populations – have dedicated annual programs. A little factoid to blow your mind (if you’re not Chinese) – the Year 2016 is the 4,713th Chinese year! The exact time of the new moon (in China) will be at 22:40 pm on February 8th, 2016. This year’s Lunar New Year celebrations will go until the Lantern Festival on February 22nd.

Children born this year are meant to be playful, mischievous and clever. So make sure to keep that in mind expecting parents!
People born in previous year’s of the monkey should wear red to warn off bad spirits. In an extra effort to keep those evil spirits away make sure to stock up on fireworks this year. Are your houses adorned with red and gold decorations? If not, they should be! These colors traditionally signify wealth and happiness in Chinese culture.
