This screening is a fragmented and emotional project, without any specific plan. Using “Mind Rehearsal” as the theme, the project intends to display these occasional moods of hesitation, joy, peace or nothingness. Time is made up of scatteredmoments, so is life.
—— Liang yue
Over the recent two years, Liang Yue has been focusing on the delicate integration of sound and image through writing and collecting silent, sensitive materials with her lens. Therefore, she invites the viewers to enter into a simple environment to sit down, and watch the videos like reading prose. It’s also a delightful shift of the artist’s viewing angle. After this screening project, Liang Yue will continue her exploration on issues of human and society.
About the artist
Liang Yue was born in Shanghai in 1979. She graduated from the Shanghai Art Academy in 2001. Currently she lives and works in Canada.
In Liang Yue’s works of photography and video, the “daily” is always taken as the focus. She uses easy-to-get materials with her acute artistic talents, keeps seeking, exploring and capturing daily routines, and extending from concerns for urban life to gazing into the eternal scenery in the nature. A clear clue of her artistic practice could be witnessed in her massive amount of works during the past fifteen years that explore the beauty of insignificance. It is especially obvious in her videos that she keeps simplifying and abandoning the techniques of shooting and editing, challenging the viewers’ habit of appreciation, as well as their retina and eardrum, patience and rationality while further questioning the so-called significance and value of art as she treats the meaninglessness as the ultimate significance of her creation.
