Presented as part of Final Cut of the Shanghai E-arts Festival 2008.
‘Art can never be made by machine alone’, Zhou Xiaohu says when creating his sculptural installations that involve animation, as well as analogue elements. In his newly commissioned Arthub production for the public in the heart of Xujiahui (Ganghui), Zhou Xiaohu creates a monumental installation. Titled “A Golden Needle,” the work is a column, consisting of four LED screens, with a simple gesture of hummering a golden needle into the floor. Designed to signify the heart of the consumerist life of our post-modern society, it is also to act as a simple and powerful sign that reminds the public of the ephemeral value of this hyper commercial life style.
