Pius KNUESEL Director Pro Helvetia, Zurich Switzerland

Pius Knüsel (*1957, Switzerland) has been director of the Swiss cultural foundation Pro Helvetia since 2002. After studying German studies, philosophy and literary criticism at the University of Zurich he initially worked as cultural editor for Swiss television. He was programme director of the jazz club MOODS, the first Jazznojazz Festivals in Zurich, and until 2002 was a member of the board of the Europe Jazz Network. As director of culture sponsoring of Credit Suisse Switzerland, Pius Knüsel has increasingly been involved in the field of cultural management since 1998. As of 1999 he has been a member of the steering committee and the supervisory council of the postgraduate course in “cultural management” at the Zürcher Hochschule Winterthur. In 2000 he was co-founder of the Culture and Economy Forum and from 2001 to 2002 directed the global cultural sponsoring Credit Suisse Financial Services. Various articles and publications by him have appeared on the topic of cultural promotion, including “Geld und Geist. Zur Zukunft der Vergangenheit”, a speech at the annual conference of ICOMOS Switzerland, Nov. 2006.
