Arthub is supporting a resource development project, Site of Rights and Expression - SORE in Yangon.
The program has started last month.
SICA brought 8 laptops inside Burma given to 3 groups of young persons to do research and to do activities outside the city. One of the laptop is permanently in a monastery as it was dangerous for the person to carry it with him everytime he travel there. Security is very tight every where. The activities carried out ranged from teaching how to do independent research and learning to teaching English to young monks. This is requested by the abbot as they want to connect to other knowledge. In the villages of the disaster areas,tThe young people carried out post traumatic activities with young children. We hope to organise more seminars in the future and is waiting for more funding to organise IT training. During the 1st anniversary of the monks(18th Sept.) uprising internet connection was cut to a slow tickle and all the dissidents’ site was attacked and shut down in the last few days. We are waiting for a friend going into Yangon at the end of this month to bring in some more hard wares and books for teaching.
Here below a short report about the works done by the community in Burma to relieve the conditions for the victims of Nargis.
