Born in 1962 in Trento, Italy, currently alternately lives and works between Italy and the People’s Republic of China, where she discovers and promotes contemporary artists, writes, and curates exhibitions.
A DAMS graduate, majors in art history and Ph.D in History of Art in India and East Asia. Since 1986 has spent long periods in the People’s Republic of China. In 1988-89 studies at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. Makes three documentary videos on Chinese and Taiwanese contemporary art (1990, 1991, 1992).
In 1996/97 works as a curator at the Singapore Art Museum. In 1999 and 2001, writes catalogue essays for the Venice Biennial.
From 2002 to 2005 is based in Shanghai where she works for, among others, the Shanghai Gallery of Art (Three on the Bund).
Has held several conferences and seminars on Chinese and Italian contemporary art at various universities and museums, and has curated about forty exhibitions in the People’s Republic of China, Italy, Pakistan, Switzerland, the United States, and Thailand.
Since 1998 has contributed to PRIVATE, an international photography review, for which she edited two issues on the People’s Republic of China (Carne e Ossa, 1999; and Earth, 2005).
A Chinese edition of her book on contemporary art in China, Art, an individual research – my experience of the last twenty years of Chinese art, has been published by the Hebei Arts Publishing House.
