Lothar Spree, Professor for the Film & Media Dept.,Tongji University Shanghai China

Lothar Spree was educated at the famed hochschule für gestaltung ulm (Academy of Design Ulm, Institute for Film Design Ulm), the Bauhaus follow-up that was to determin his life. All during his career, he produced exceptional films for cinema and television, based on the drive for learning and teaching creativity. He studied, taught and produced film and media in Canada, USA, Europe and – now – in China; he was producer, author, director, cameraman, editor and lecturer in all those countries, and produced hundreds of films and programs for cinema and television; his academic career shows him as Professor for Film and Media at Ontario College of Art, Toronto Canada, at the HfG - Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe, the University of Tübingen, the UDK Berlin, the Zeppelin University, and at the hfg_OF (Academy of Design Offenbach Main). All the time he was closely related to and working for the ZKM – Centre for Art & Media Karlsruhe; he co-founded (with Edgar Reitz) the EIKK - European Institute of Cinema Karlsruhe, whose director he was from 1995 – 2003, and the Scuola Europeen di Cinema Montone Umbria in Italy 2002. In 2003, he followed a call to become Professor (& Dean) for the Film/TV&MediaArt Department at the College of Communication & Art, Tongji University Shanghai China. At present, Prof. Lothar Spree is returning to his personal film and media art, but continues teaching film, TV, scriptwriting and Media Art in the tradition of the Bauhaus, focusing on teaching creativity.
