Gianfranco MARIANIELLO, Mac (Museum of Contemporary Art), Bologna, Italy

Gianfranco Maraniello (b. 1971) since April 2005 is Director of the Istituzione Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Bologna that includes other than Museo Morandi and Villa delle Rose also the new premises of MAMbo – Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna, inaugurated the 5th of May 2007 with the exhibition Vertigo. Il secolo di arte off-media dal Futurismo al web (curated by Germano Celant and Gianfranco Maraniello).

In 2006 was co-curator of the Shanghai Biennial.

Curator at MACRO, Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Roma (2002-2005) and at Palazzo delle Papesse – Centro Arte Contemporanea di Siena (2000-2001) as well as many contemporary art exhibitions.

From 2001 to 2005 has taught Estetica dei Nuovi Media (Aesthetics of New Media) at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera (Brera’s Fine Arts Academy) and held classes for Master’s degree for curators at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and La Sapienza University in Rome.

Has regularly written for various specialised magazines, among which Flash Art (1993-2001) and BT - Japan (2000-2003) and has been art critic for the daily Il Riformista (2003-2005).

Author of many critical essays for books and catalogues and many artists’ monographs other having curated the book Arte in Europa 1990-2000 (Skira 2003).
