Students exhibition Date: 2005, January 22nd, at 18:00 (for one night only) Participating artists: Students from the College of Media Art of Tongji University Venue: Shanghai BizArt Art Center.
Organized and supervised by: Lothar Spree and Dirk Schulz.
At the end of the winter semester 2004/05, students of the Film/TV&MediaArt Department of the College of Communication & Art worked for the first time in the field of Audiovisual Installation and Space Related Interaction. The college’s new Media Centre was inaugurated with the adventure of liberating electronic media from keyboard and monitor screen. Dealing with the human/ computer interface through all kinds of sensor devices, the students chose to create “The Electronic Zoo” - since they were creating a collection of precious and delicate digital beings, the result was a resort for these strange and rare beings, put on view for a curious audience. The one-week practical workshop merged basic concepts of the art of audiovisual installation with simple forms of user interaction. Unconventional user interfaces were developed to trigger events on the screen. The simple approach served as a future model of Media Art Education.
